Bruce Cohen received his bachelor’s degree in pre-physical therapy and psychology from Rutgers University (NJ), and his master’s in clinical exercise physiology from Northeastern University (MA). He completed his Ph.D. in exercise, health and sport psychology from Temple University (PA). Dr Bruce consulted on the development of wellness/fitness programs and standards for the United States Public Health Service/Division of Federal Occupational Health. More recently he has consulted on and published research with the Department of Defense into the psychosocial and physiological aspects associated with health, injury, occupational and human performance. He is a Certified Exercise Physiologist with the American College of Sports Medicine and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with National Strength and Conditioning Association. Dr Cohen has 35 years of experience in wellness, fitness, sports and performance coaching where he successfully combines his psychological and physiological approach into comprehensive strategies to improve adherence to wellness/fitness health behaviors while reducing clients perceived barriers/excuses and relapses. Bruce combats his own EXCUSERCISING by participating in pickleball, table tennis, cycling, and shooting hoops whenever the sun shines, or does not. With Dr Bruce there is no excuse for not attaining your wellness goals!
Michael Sachs is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Kinesiology, College of Public Health, at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. His bachelor’s degree in psychology is from Union College (NY), and he has two master’s degrees – one in general experimental psychology from Hollins College (VA) and one in counseling psychology from Loyola University (MD). He received his Ph.D. in sport psychology from Florida State University. Michael is co-editor of the recently published Performance Excellence: Stories of Success From the Real World of Sport and Exercise Psychology (with Lauren Tashman and Selen Razon). He is also a co-editor of Applied Exercise Psychology: The Challenging Journey From Motivation to Adherence, and is associate editor of Psychology of Running and coeditor of Running as Therapy: An Integrated Approach. He co-wrote The Total Sports Experience for Kids: A Parents' Guide to Success in Youth Sports. He is also a co-editor of the Directory of Graduate Programs in Applied Sport Psychology (AASP - the Association for Applied Sport Psychology). He has written or co-authored numerous book chapters, academic articles on various topics within exercise and sport psychology, and articles on the psychology of running in popular publications. Michael is a Past-President of both AASP and Division 47, the Society for Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology, of the American Psychological Association (APA). He is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant with AASP. Michael enjoys exercising, particularly running and swimming, and has run two marathons: the Joe Steele Rocket City Marathon (Huntsville, AL) and the New York City Marathon.
